PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE LIVING APPEAL

PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE LIVING APPEAL

LAUNCH OF THE SECOND PHASE OF
THE PHYLLIS TUCKWELL LIVING APPEAL
OUR FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice (PTH) has launched the second phase of its Living Appeal, as well as announcing its intention to re-open, in the autumn, two of the four beds that were closed last year.    The Living Appeal is the Hospice's invitation to the local community to help keep these additional beds open - and the rest of the Hospice's services going - so that we can look after people in our community who need us.  The continued generous support of the community is vital.

This Appeal follows the initial launch of the Living Appeal in March 2006, which came about as a result of a significant drop in legacy income and general donations.  In April 2006 PTH closed four of its eighteen beds.

Chief Executive, Sarah Brocklebank says : "We have been encouraged by the public's response to the Living Appeal and would like to thank those who have donated so generously.  Your response has made a huge difference - and now gives us a platform to plan to re-open two beds.  But we can only keep them open - and the rest of our services going  - with the public's continued support".

Director of Nursing, Clodagh Sowton, commented "Opening these two beds is absolutely vital to support the range of care we can offer our patients and their families.  Our expanded community team has really helped support patients and their families at home, but there are always times that a patient needs to come into the Hospice.  Re-opening two of the beds will reduce the time the patients currently have to wait to come into the Hospice. We expect to be able to support an additional 200 patients, families and carers each year, who we are currently unable to support due to reduced beds. Please do support this important stage of the Living Appeal"

PTH receives only 16% of its funding from the NHS yet it costs over £4m each year to provide the full range of hospice services.  The Hospice supports over 100 patients, families and their carers a day.

The Hospice is now inviting the public to support the Living Appeal and keep our services open by setting up regular standing orders or payroll giving.  Both of these are extremely tax effective.  All of our 10 shops are participating in the Appeal and the public can either visit one of the shops, the Hospice, send their form back by post, call us on 01252 729400 or simply click on the button below.
