PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE LIVING APPEAL

PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE LIVING APPEAL

HARRY'S STORY

Harry, 75 lives in Farnborough on his own as he was widowed 6 years ago. He was diagnosed last August with Motor Neurone Disease.  At present, this affects his speech and he uses a Lite Writer to communicate. One of our Community Nurse Specialists (CNS) assessed Harry at home and suggested that he attended Day Hospice once a week.

Motor Neurone Disease

This was to manage his symptoms, to access the Occupational Therapy team and to talk to one of our counsellors. The CNS arranged for the Patient Welfare Advisor to help Harry to apply for the benefits that he was now entitled to.

"The Hospice means everything to me. They are training me to use my Lite Writer and to come to terms with the fact that I will at some point lose my voice entirely. When you walk into the Hospice, the atmosphere is exhilarating and stimulating. I can’t tell you what it does for my heart. That’s why I’ve chosen to leave a legacy to the Hospice."
